What is GVWR?
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the maximum total weight a vehicle is designed to safely carry, including the vehicle itself, passengers, cargo, and fuel. It’s set by the manufacturer and listed on the vehicle’s door-jamb sticker.
The formula
Maximum payload capacity is found with Payload = GVWR − Curb Weight. This calculator then subtracts your current load from that payload to show Remaining Capacity = GVWR − (Curb Weight + Current Load), along with what percentage of your payload capacity is already in use.
Exceeding GVWR can affect braking, handling, and tire safety, and may violate vehicle regulations. Always check your specific vehicle’s door-jamb sticker for exact figures — this calculator is for general reference and planning purposes only.
