Fielding Percentage Calculator

Enter a player’s putouts, assists, and errors to calculate their fielding percentage.

What this calculator does

Fielding percentage measures how reliably a baseball or softball player handles the balls hit their way. It is one of the oldest defensive statistics in the sport and is still reported on every player’s stat line.

How the calculation works

The formula is Fielding Percentage = (Putouts + Assists) / (Putouts + Assists + Errors). The denominator, putouts plus assists plus errors, represents the player’s total fielding chances. A perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 means the player successfully handled every chance without an error.

  • Putouts credit a fielder for directly recording an out (e.g. catching a fly ball, tagging a runner).
  • Assists credit a fielder who touches the ball before a putout is recorded by a teammate.
  • Errors are misplays that should have resulted in an out or extra bases.

This calculator is for general reference and statistics tracking; it does not account for official scorer judgment calls.
