Why engine hours don’t equal road miles
Trucks and heavy equipment often track engine hours instead of odometer miles, since engines also run while idling, loading, or working off-road. There’s no fixed conversion, since it depends heavily on how much time is spent idling versus driving at speed.
The formula used here
Estimated miles = Engine hours × Assumed average speed. The trucking industry commonly uses a rough range of 30 to 60 miles per engine hour to translate maintenance intervals, with roughly 45 mph as a common mid-point that accounts for idle time mixed with highway driving. Adjust the average speed field to match your actual duty cycle for a better estimate.
